National Green Tribunal Orders Action to Combat Illegal Mining in Rajasthan
Jaipur, 2024-08-12 – The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has expressed deep concern over rampant illegal mining across the country, particularly in Rajasthan. In response, the tribunal has directed state governments to implement a new action plan that includes the establishment of call centers in every district.
The NGT Bhopal Branch issued these orders while hearing a case regarding illegal mining. The tribunal took cognizance of numerous media reports highlighting the widespread issue of illegal mining in the state. In its order, the NGT directed the state government to:
Establish a toll-free call center in each district to receive complaints of illegal mining.
Form a committee headed by the district collector to investigate and take immediate action on all complaints received through the call centers.
* Continuously monitor districts to prevent the resurgence of illegal mining.
The NGT expressed deep concern over the alarming number of illegal mining cases in the state and issued this action plan to tackle the issue effectively. The tribunal emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and action to ensure the complete eradication of illegal mining in Rajasthan and other affected states.
