He explains that in 2020, when he was told that Ferran Palau wanted to produce his first EP –Brains– he couldn’t believe it. “I hallucinated because I have always admired him. He was the one who introduced me to music in Catalan,” he says Carlota Loaferstage name of the singer and composer Charlotte Cerrillo (Barcelona, 1997), which three years later is in full presentation tour of Uncertainty (Hidden Track, 2022), a full-length debut for ten light pop songs sung in English and also produced by the musician from Collbató. Next Saturday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m., he will present them to close the current edition of the cycle Spring Concerts of the Athenaeum June 24 from Girona.

“We like to have sex on Friday night and forget it by Monday. We are the generation of the young flesh» (We like to have sex on Friday nights and forget about it on Monday. We are the generation of the young flesh) Carlota Flâneur sang at the beginning of autumn 2020. It was about Generation of young fleshthe single with which this young woman from Barcelona, also known for having a section of its own in the Els Experts d’Icat space and for Breakfastthe podcast of Radio Primavera Sound which leads next to marc ferrer, became known in the Catalan musical field. “I didn’t write the song at any time thinking of portraying any moment other than what I was experiencing myself. I didn’t mean for it to become a generational thing, but I tend to be careful about the people I hang out with, in general. I like that there is a lot of communication and I realized that for many people it was not like that» he explains.

About the title of his debut full-length, Flâneur explains that he decided to Uncertainty – which is also the title of one of the songs – because before its launch “I wasn’t very clear if I wanted to dedicate myself to this”. “I have come to terms with this uncertainty. Now I’m convinced of what I’m doing and, at the same time, I’m comfortable with my uncertainty. I have become more aware of how uncertain the landscape is. In the world of culture, today, nothing is predictable. With social networks, consumption habits are constantly changing,” he points out.

An “autobiographical” songbook

One of the features that characterize the artist’s proposal is its “autobiographical” component, through songs that, despite sometimes addressing themes that pass through sadness or anxiety, transmit warmth and brightness. “Many times you make a record because you feel like making it. But once it’s published, you can analyze it from another point of view. I feel like I have a tendency to talk about all human emotions from a place of tenderness. As much as I’m talking about unpleasant sensations, or even linked to sadness or anxiety, I like to look at it thinking that this is what makes me human and that I already feel like celebrating it” comments.

“The songs that make up the album have been written over time, at various times and many of them, at the time of writing them, I didn’t even know that I would have the opportunity to record a work. At no time did I have the possibility of making a concept album in my mind. But I think that in the end, since for now, the place from which I write is always the same, this need to express those things that are happening to me, in an autobiographical key, now I don’t know how to do anything else” says the Barcelona around a songbook that is nourished, above all, by personal experiences. And it is that Flâneur assures that, metaphorically, listening to his album is “like making a coffee with me”. “Maybe in a few years I will write stories about other people, but right now what comes out of me are personal things. I’m a person who talks a lot about the things he experiences and what happens around him.”

After presenting her album in Girona, a city she will set foot in as an artist for the first time in a reverse box office concert, Carlota Flâneur will debut at the Primavera Sound festival with concerts in its Barcelona (June 2) and Madrid (June 9) editions.
