Nuclear disarmament agreement: opposed by Russia | World | Deshabhimani

New York
Russia has refused to ratify the final draft of the UN Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The failure of the talks was due to the non-acceptance of the amendments requested by Russia and differences of opinion regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.

The UN nuclear disarmament treaty is reviewed every five years as part of an effort to reduce nuclear risks and prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

At the meeting, countries including the US issued a joint statement against Russia taking control of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. This is why Russia refused to accept the final draft.
