The nuclear submarine of the Northern Fleet “Kazan” – the first ship of the modernized project 885A “Ash-M”, – thanks to technical innovations, has become the quietest in its class.

– “Kazan” has new characteristics in terms of physical fields, maneuverability. Today it is the quietest submarine cruiser of the Russian Navy. The Kazan nuclear submarine is a huge step into the future, a cruiser of the 21st century, – said Mikhail Budnichenko, general director of the Sevmash production association that built the submarine, in an interview with the Zavod corporate magazine.

He recalled that the Kazan significantly differs in performance from the lead nuclear submarine of the Yasen type. A new direction has been implemented in the Yasen-M project – the intellectualization of military operations. For the first time, advanced information technologies have been introduced, as in the cruiser’s electronic weapons – this increases the efficiency and quality of combat control.

In 2022, Sevmash plans to transfer two more nuclear submarines to the fleet: the strategic missile carrier Knyaz Oleg and the multipurpose nuclear submarine Novosibirsk.

– At the final stage – nuclear submarine “Belgorod”. We are preparing to leave the slipway nuclear submarine “Generalissimo Suvorov”. There are two lines of ships of the Borey-A and Yasen-M projects, as well as the Khabarovsk nuclear submarine, on the stocks, Budnichenko said. Recall that “Belgorod” and “Khabarovsk” are being built according to a special project as carriers of Poseidon underwater drones.
