At least eight people were killed in a severe mudslide that hit the resort island of Ischia in Italy. As a result of the landslide, many buildings were destroyed, as well as the transportation infrastructure.
The local governor said that five people are still missing. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney declared a state of emergency in the country, and defined the situation as “unusual flooding and landslide events”.
The local governor added that “four million dollars were allocated for the purpose of restoring the area, and to meet the immediate needs as a result.” He added that “adequate services will be provided to families who are in temporary shelters, after their homes have been destroyed.
