A Lancet study predicts that the number of people with type 1 diabetes will increase by 2040. As of today, there are about 8.6 lakh people with type 1 diabetes in India. One in six dies.

In 2021, 8.4 million people worldwide will be living with type 1 diabetes. India must ensure that everyone with type 1 diabetes has access to stable human insulin and test strips for self-monitoring of blood glucose. If India can do this by 2023, over half a million people will be living with type 1 diabetes by 2040,” says Priyanka Rai, Global Policy Director, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and co-author of the study.
