(ANSA) – ROME, JULY 10 – The first analysis on home nursing care in Italy reveals that more than 9 out of 10 patients are satisfied with the care they receive, with an average rating of 9.3 that reaches 9.4 in the elderly.
The survey “The contribution of nursing to the development of territoriality”, conducted for ten months by the Center of Excellence for Research and Development of Nursing (Cersi) on behalf of the National Federation of Nursing Professions (Fnopi), was carried out on 77 out of 110 Local Health Authorities, for a coverage of 75.3% of the Italian population.
The data collected by Cersi also show that among the nurses participating in the analysis, 83.3% declare themselves satisfied or very satisfied with their job, while the share of those who would leave their job if they had the opportunity is limited to 20.1%. Just over a third, 37%, emphasize a medium-high workload, while 10.3% declare a high workload. 20.5% say they have suffered an attack of violence in the last 12 months, with 36.9% declaring three or more.
Nursing care activities (blood sampling, dressings, drug administration, device management, education, training, monitoring, clinical-care procedures) are guaranteed in almost all Local Health Authorities, but only 27% host Community Homes and 57% offer digital health services. On average, each Local Health Authority provides 10.1 home care activities out of 17. “It is desirable to implement models that involve nurses with specific training in community care”, states the Fnopi Central Committee. “Through structures, currently scarce, such as Community Homes or nursing care units, it would be possible to increase the quantity and complexity of interventions provided in the community, without involving hospital facilities”, it highlights, adding that today “the distribution of the type of services available and the related resources does not always seem to be in line with population density and therefore with the requests of the population, contrary to what is underlined in the literature regarding the need to adapt the models as much as possible to the needs of users”.
