International Nursing Day is commemorated every May 12, therefore, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) led by José Ruales and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) represented by Oscar Barreneche, held an event in tribute to the nursing professionals of this State portfolio.
For the MSP it is important to recognize and pay a well-deserved tribute to those who are the heart of care and service to the population. Nursing is a profession that cares for individuals, families, and communities, through health promotion, disease prevention, and timely follow-up in the recovery and care of patients.
It also provides direct assistance to the patient in first level health establishments and hospital care. He leads large-scale processes by managing health activities and administrative functions, always for the benefit of the population.
Ruales thanked the effort and commitment of nurses in the country. He highlighted his closeness to this profession before beginning his medical career and during his career over the years. “Nursing has its own role and they are key players in health care, demonstrating interdisciplinary work and a lifetime of dedication to the good of the community.”
He announced that last month the MSP summoned 300 nurses to form the Comprehensive Health Care Teams (EAIS) and that in this year 2023 it is expected to hire 3,454 professionals in this field between first level and hospital. “We currently have 17,726 professionals nationwide. Between January and April, 1,090 male and female nurses were hired.”
For his part, Barreneche pointed out that this day is important in the public health of Ecuador, the countries of the region and the entire world. “The vital role that nurses play in universal health shows a proximity to communities that need safe and quality treatment.”
Both authorities together with a team from the MSP gave a symbolic recognition to the nursing staff present at the event for their outstanding professional work, academic merits and important contributions to the health sector.
