NVIDIA RTX 3060 with GDDR6X?

A retailer that sells OEM parts for Lenovo devices is now offering GeForce RTX 3060 with upgraded GDDR6X memory.

There have been rumors that the GeForce RTX 3060 will reduce the memory to 8GB, but so far no one has mentioned that this SKU will get a faster memory type. Just yesterday, we reported that a UK retailer is now preparing to sell an RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition with GDDR6X memory, confirming earlier speculation.

If this Slovak retailer’s listing for the “Lenovo RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6X” is correct, it may indicate that a non-Ti RTX 3060 could also follow with faster memory.

Upgrading the memory to the GDDR6X standard would likely mean two things, higher memory speed and higher bandwidth, but also higher TDP. Interestingly, the specs listed by the Slovak retailer don’t appear to be showing up either. The boost clock is still 1.78GHz and the maximum power consumption appears to be the same at 170W.

A quick check of the product code shows that it matches the Lenovo RTX 3060 GDDR6 SKU. So one can assume it’s just a fault on the part of the dealer, or a memory swap on an existing part. Both options are equally plausible, given the recent rumors.
