Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang said the company intends to build a network of semiconductor foundries in Japan in collaboration with local companies to meet demand for GPUs for artificial intelligence training.
“Japan has all the technical knowledge and industrial capabilities to create its own artificial intelligence within the country,” Mr. Huang said after a meeting with Japanese Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura (quoted by Bloomberg).
Nvidia GPUs, which process large amounts of data and perform parallel calculations, are used to train AI. Driven by demand for artificial intelligence chips, Nvidia’s third-quarter revenue grew 206% year over year.
