NWZ starts home monitoring of patients with IBD and atrial fibrillation via app

by time news

The gastroenterologists and cardiologists of the Noordwest Hospital Group are starting with home monitoring via Luscii’s Thuismeten app. Patients with IBD (Crohn’s disease) and atrial fibrillation are introduced step by step. The selected patients decide together with the medical specialists whether they want and can participate in home monitoring via their smartphone or tablet.

IBD stands for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, also known as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder in which the heart often beats (much) too fast. Home monitoring means checking the health of patients remotely. This is a lot easier for both the patient and the healthcare provider and, if necessary, quick action can be taken to prevent clinical admissions. NWZ uses the Home Measurement app from Luscii.

IBD patients receive the calprotectin test (poo test) at the outpatient clinic and/or can pick it up at one of Starlet’s service locations. After taking the test, they complete a questionnaire and then receive advice when necessary.

Patients with atrial fibrillation measure their complaints twice a week and take a heart rhythm measurement up to the cardioversion, to pass on via the Thuismeasurement app. The aim is to give the patient more control and to recognize a normal heart rhythm in time so that it can be determined whether a cardioversion is necessary.

In the event of deviating values and/or questions, the doctors and nurse (specialist) will be notified. These reports are read on working days for IBD and once a week for atrial fibrillation. It is therefore a ‘monitoring system’ and not a ‘surveillance system’. If necessary, the healthcare provider will contact the patient directly, for example via video calls.
