The Nylstar factory in Blanes (Selva) has restarted the machines this Wednesday to produce 80 tons of yarn. At the moment, the Nylon 6.6 thread has started to be produced, which is a very technical type of textile material. Tomorrow is they will put in operation more machines to make more Nylon threads which are only made in the century-old factory in Blanes. The resumption of activity in the forest industry comes half a year after the company stopped machines when entering the liquidation phase. At the moment there will be forty active workersbut the president of the company committee, Xavier Cherino, has shown confidence in what recruitment will open soon “if production goes up”.

In the middle of January this 2023 the owners of the company Nylstar in Blanes presented a voluntary bankruptcy of creditors to close the company. They did it three weeks after withdrawing an ERO that had to fire 24 workers and guarantee the viability of the company.

Now, half a year later, activity has resumed, according to ACN. This Wednesday the machines have restarted to produce Nylon 6.6 thread, “the most technical in the textile market”, as the president of the works committee, Xavier Cherino, recalled. Looking ahead to this Thursday, more machines will be turned on than they will have to facilitate the production of the 80 tons that have been ordered by the suppliers at the factory in Selva.

The moment, the workforce has been closed with around forty workers. Cherino has assured that it is “quite adjusted to the low production” in anticipation of the future that will be in the factory. However, Cherino is confident that there will be more hiring if demand increases. The goal is to reach the 80 workers who were there when the factory closed at the beginning of the year.

This return to activity has been made after someone interested in buying the factory has opened a line of credit. However, the anonymity of this potential buyer is still maintained. The president of the works committee has remarked that he would still be studying the production and maintenance costs of the old Safa.

A year and a half of instability

In January, the owners of the factory they presented a voluntary creditors’ competition to extinguish the company and dismiss the 80 workers of the century-old factory in Blanes. In any case, Nylstar’s activity was stopped since November 2022 due to the increase in the price of energy. In fact, those in charge of the factory claimed that there was a cost overrun of 2.2 million euros. despite everything from the beginning of 2022 the workforce was immersed in an ERTE which affected 90% of the workers.
