NYT learns of Meta’s plans to open a chain of stores around the world

by time news

US company Meta (Facebook) has discussed opening retail stores around the world so customers can view products from its Reality Labs division, the New York Times reported, citing a company document.

In the Meta stores, users would be able to familiarize themselves with the virtual reality headset and augmented reality glasses created by Reality Labs. The document says the purpose of the stores is to make the world “more open and interconnected.” Stores should inspire curiosity among customers, proximity to the metaverse and the feeling that they are always welcome when they use their devices.

According to the sources of the publication, the opening of the stores was discussed before the rebranding of Facebook. The publication noted that the project is still being developed.

On October 28, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg announced the company’s renaming to Meta. According to him, the new brand will focus on the metaverse, in which a person will abandon screens and feel the effect of being in virtual reality. The names of the apps that are owned by the company will not change at this stage.
