NYT: Meta Discusses Virtual Reality Stores Opening

by time news

Meta (the new name of Facebook) may open a network of retail stores selling virtual reality devices. The New York Times (NYT) reports that the company is discussing such a possibility, citing knowledgeable sources and company documents.

According to the interlocutors of the newspaper, the stores will be used to familiarize people with the devices produced by the Reality Labs division. These are, in particular, a virtual reality headset and augmented reality glasses. According to sources, work on the creation of a chain of stores began last year; direct discussion of their opening started a few months before the rebranding of Facebook. In the company documents examined by the newspaper, there are also references to stores.

A Meta spokesman told the publication that the company could not confirm plans for stores, but noted that the latest virtual reality headset is “in high demand” and its equipment is available in retail partner stores.

At the end of October, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company is changing its name to Meta as the platform has gone beyond the social network and should soon become a full-fledged metaverse.
