OAS to Hold Urgent Meeting on Controversial Venezuelan Election Results Amidst Disputed Claims of Victory

by time news

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) announced early Tuesday that it will hold an extraordinary meeting next Wednesday to “address the results of the electoral process” in Venezuela, where the National Electoral Council (CNE) has proclaimed the victory of the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, with 51 percent of the votes against 44 percent garnered by the opposition candidate Edmundo González, who does not recognize these results and has claimed victory.

“The Permanent Council of the OAS will hold an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, July 31 at 15:00 EDT (19:00 GMT) in the Simón Bolívar room at the OAS headquarters in Washington to ‘address the results of the electoral process in Venezuela,'” states an OAS statement.

This meeting will be broadcast live through its website and its accounts on the social network Facebook and the platform YouTube, which will feature interpretation in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese.
