The Appellate Division gave a stay order on the judgment of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on reservation of quota in government jobs. Despite this, Bangladesh Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader feels that there is no justification for the students to continue their agitation.

Calling upon the agitators to be patient, he said, people may suffer, and request them to avoid all such programs and return to the educational institutions as per the court’s instructions.

In a statement on Friday (July 13), Obaidul Quader said that the Appellate Division has given a four-week stay on the judgment of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court on reservation of quota in government jobs. After this order of the Appellate Division, the judgment of the High Court Division has no effect at present. Despite this, there is no justification for the students’ movement to continue.

‘The spirit of the Great War of Liberation and the evil forces against freedom have filled this movement. Students will protest against whom? The order of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court is in their favor. The continuation of the movement after this proves that some group or faction is inciting this movement to achieve political objectives.

The general secretary of Awami League said that if the students continue this movement, the suffering of the general public will increase. If the people become hostage to this movement, they will lose confidence in the young students.

In the statement, Obaidul Quader also said that a certain political group is trying to gain advantage by creating conflict between students and people. We do not believe that all Komalmati students want to ignore the directives of the highest court of the country. Only those who are politically motivated are trying to show force by ignoring the court’s directives.

He said that whenever there is any movement, the BNP-Jamaat and their allies use it as a tool and get into the nightmare of coming to power. Now they are trying to build on the quota movement. Because people have no confidence in them. When they were in power they turned Bangladesh into a failed state through corruption, looting, terrorism and extremism.

Obaidul Quader said that BNP leader Tariq Rahman institutionalized corruption by opening Hawa Bhaban. Thousands of crores of rupees are illegally smuggled out of the country and live a luxurious life in London. He has no relation with the common people of the country. BNP has been rejected by the people time and again due to the non-politicism of this corrupt leadership. They could not succeed in any anti-government movement. Therefore, whenever a non-political movement is organized, BNP tries to politicize it by capitalizing on it.

Awami League is always sincere towards the logical demands of the people of the country, claiming that no logical demand has ever been ignored by the Awami League. Bangladesh Awami League is always working to build a welfare developed and prosperous state by holding the hopes and aspirations of the people.

Calling upon the young students, he said, “You will not be abused as a political tool of anyone.” At the final hearing, the counsel for the agitators has an opportunity to present further arguments. The highest court of the country will settle this matter through the final hearing. The court will take into account the grievances of the protesting students during the final hearing and give a realistic final judgment and the matter will be settled.
