Obituary: Shirley Irene (Goddard) Winter

Shirley Irene (Goddard) Winter, a long-time resident of Nevada, Missouri, passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born in Eve, Missouri, on September 17, 1940.

A life marked by family, travel, and a strong work ethic.

What was Shirley Irene (Goddard) Winter known for? Shirley Winter, a Missouri native, lived a life filled with simple pleasures, hard work, and a love for travel, as she worked at Walmart and traveled to antique shows with her husband, Joe.

As a young girl, Winter’s family moved frequently due to her father’s work with farmers, eventually settling in Richards, MO. She attended school there and was a member of the basketball team, graduating from Richards High School in 1958. As a teenager, she worked at Galvin’s Drug Store in Ft. Scott, and later as a telephone switchboard operator. Her career included working at Key’s Work Clothes in Nevada and then at Walmart until her retirement.

Winter’s love for travel was evident in her attendance at numerous Gas Engine and Antique Tractor Shows across the United States, often accompanied by her husband, Joe. Joe Winter preceded her in death on July 4, 2023.

Winter was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; a son, Jack; her siblings; and a son-in-law, Ron Wolf. She is survived by her son, Joe Lee; her daughter, Glenda Wolf; grandchildren, Casey Fogle (John), Amanda Ast (Kerry), and Natalie Kitsmiller (J.T.); and great-grandchildren, Michael Fogle, Keeton Ast, Annabelle Ast, Lucas Kitsmiller, and Colt Kitsmiller.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. on Monday June 23, 2025, at Ferry Funereal Home in Nevada. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Stevens Cemetery, west of Bronaugh, MO.
