Obituary – Sonntagberg: Great sadness for Edi Keusch

by time news

Sonntagberg mourns the loss of Eduard Keusch. The former SPÖ member of the state parliament died on Friday, August 9, on his 83rd birthday.

Edi Keusch was politically active for the SPÖ for many years of his life. Between 1979 and 2003, the Böhlerwerk native represented the Mostviertel in the Lower Austrian state parliament. In his hometown of Sonntagberg, Keusch first became involved as an SJ functionary and from 1975 to 1988 as a local councilor. The former Böhler works council was always very concerned with apprentice training. The training at the Böhler Ybbstalwerke bears his signature.

Social Democrat with heart and soul

Edi Keusch was a social democrat through and through. As a deeply political person, he followed the development of society and his party with great interest even in retirement. “The SPÖ must remain a movement whose political objective is geared towards social security and justice for all people and which strongly opposes the dismantling of the welfare state,” said Keusch in an interview with the NÖN five years ago. “Rapid technological change requires different strategies, but the challenge has remained the same. The SPÖ is the social conscience of the nation.”

He also demonstrated his strong social spirit in his work for Volkshilfe. From 1984 to 2012 he was chairman of Volkshilfe in the Amstetten district. Until 2013 he also served as vice president of Volkshilfe NÖ. Keusch is the recipient of the Volkshilfe NÖ Ring of Honour and the Josef Afritsch Medal of Volkshilfe Austria for special services.

After his political activities, family life has been Keusch’s top priority in recent years. Edi Keusch leaves behind his wife Annemarie, his daughter Daniela and two granddaughters.

The farewell to Edi Keusch will take place on Saturday, August 31st, at 10.30 a.m. in the Rudolfsaal of the Trauerhilfe Beer in Neuhofen.
