The CSU and the left agree – it’s still not enough for a majority. Munich’s city council leaves open whether the money brought in by Rammstein will be donated.

The project, supported by the Left and the CSU, to donate the proceeds from Rammstein’s concerts in the Olympic Stadium in Munich, has met with resistance. “Demanding that the proceeds from the Rammstein concert be donated is a publicity-effective proposal, but not very effective,” the Bavarian radio quoted SPD city councilor Julia Schönfeld-Knor as saying.

And the Greens in Munich are still undecided when asked by t-online. The intention of the application is honorable, but still has to be discussed in the parliamentary group, according to a statement. In a joint city council application, the left and the CSU demanded that the money go to city-funded organizations and projects that work against sexual violence against women and care for those affected.

Where the debate about Rammstein in Munich comes from

It is not yet known how much money the proceeds will be. There are serious allegations against Rammstein singer Till Lindemann. Women have said that young girls are chosen on his behalf to sleep with him after or during the concerts. Allegedly, some of them were also drugged for this purpose. The four concerts in Munich at the beginning of July were therefore accompanied by violent protests. Lindemann denies the allegations.

The Greens in Munich had also called for measures to prevent possible sexual assaults at the concerts. Whether the donations will be made also depends on the third mayor, Verena Dietl. The SPD politician is chairwoman of Olympiapark GmbH, which organized the concerts. She was asked in the City Council application to consider a possible donation.

Her party colleague Schönfeld-Knor notes, however, that the GmbH should urgently need the money. “It is currently facing major challenges because it has to renovate the sports facilities and thus the Olympic heritage in Munich for 500 million euros,” she said, according to BR. The city already voluntarily supports organizations and initiatives that work against sexual violence.
