Giving meaning to the sacrifices of Ukrainians through financial support for the reconstruction process and their integration into the space of European democracies. Making sense of the sacrifices implies discussing a state of permanent military readiness or other guarantees of assistance in deterring a new Russian offensive.
There is no greater comfort for the West than to describe Putin as a ventricle of fanatical nationalism and Soviet nostalgia. It is comforting because it dispenses with the responsibility of formulating the problem that goes beyond collective emotion: a victory cannot depend on an absolute defeat. It is a zero-sum game with enormous potential for catastrophe.
