In 20 years, the water level has doubled. In 1993-2002, the water level in the world rose on average by 2.27 millimeters per year, but in the period from 2013 to 2022, it already rose by 4.62 millimeters per year.

Despite the La Niña process, which continued for the third year, the temperature of ocean waters reached a new record in 2022.

Current ocean acidification is unprecedented in at least the last 26,000 years, and there is strong confidence that ocean surface pH is now the lowest it has been in that period, a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concluded.

Glacier mass loss last year was seen in Asia, North America, South America, and especially Europe, where melting was exacerbated by a warm winter, Saharan sand dust and summer heat waves.

The global average air temperature in 2022 was 1.02-1.28 degrees above the 1850-1900 average. 2022 became the fifth or sixth warmest year, but the last eight years have been the warmest in the history of observations.

Emissions of the three main greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide – reached record highs in 2021, and preliminary data show that the level of emissions of these gases continued to increase last year.

The World Meteorological Organization’s report on the state of the climate in 2022 concluded that droughts, floods and heat waves affect much of the world, and the costs of preventing their consequences are increasing.
