The company OceanGate, owner of the submarine Titan, announced the suspension of all its activities. The company’s submersible imploded during an expedition to visit the wreckage of the Titanic, about 3,800 meters deep.

This Thursday, the 6th, a brief message was published in the site of the company: “OceanGate has suspended all commercial and exploration operations”.

Since the tragedy involving the Titan submarine happened, the company had not confirmed whether it would remain with its activities or whether it would suspend its operations. In this Thursday’s statement, OceanGate also does not say whether it will resume activities at some point or whether it will participate in ongoing investigations.

Currently, the Coast Guards of the United States and Canada, which also conducted the search operations, find out in an inquiry what caused the implosion of the submarine.

The submarine Titan, from the North American OceanGate, departed from the east coast of Canada on the morning of Sunday 18 towards the wreck of the Titanic. This type of expedition was marketed by the company over the last few years. The vehicle was supposed to return to the surface at the end of the afternoon, which did not happen. From then on, the searches began.

The trip had five crew members. Four of them, according to press reports in the United States, paid around US$ 250,000 (about R$ 1.1 million in current exchange rates) for the experience: British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood, also Pakistani scientist Sulaiman Dawood (son of Shahzada) and French researcher Paul-Henry Nargeolet (considered the greatest scholar on the sinking of the Titanic).

Founder and president of OceanGate, businessman Stockton Rush completed the crew of the submarine, which disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean.

On the 22nd of June, confirmation was given: all five crew members of the submarine Titan, which disappeared in the Atlantic Ocean, had died. The information was confirmed at a press conference by the United States Coast Guard.
