The suspect, whose identity is still not known so far, must first appear Tuesday afternoon before a judge at the Sherbrooke courthouse.

It was investigators from the SQ’s Crimes Against the Person Service who arrested him at the end of the day, Monday, after being made aware of new elements of the investigation.

Last Thursday, around 11:30 am, the police officers of the MRC of Coaticook were called for an 80-year-old woman “found unconscious and injured outside her residence on rue de la Rivière”. The lady without a story was reportedly shot and killed on her way home. His death, noted in the hospital, had shocked the residents of his neighborhood which was, after all, very quiet.

A dozen patrol vehicles were dispatched to rue de la Rivière on Thursday at noon, while the police had erected a large security perimeter.

Potential witnesses were also met and door-to-door visits were carried out in the neighborhood. Investigators have also identified at least four cartridge cases on the ground at the scene of the crime.

“It’s a super quiet place, where a lot of old people stay. I am quite devastated to know that it is happening in our small town ”, had explained to the Journal of Montreal the mayor of Coaticook, Simon Madorre, after the tragedy, saying he was upset by the events.
