It was a sensation when the American Nadya Suleman gave birth to the first surviving octuplets in January 2009. She made international headlines as the “Octomom”. Not least because the then 33-year-old already had six children, all of whom were conceived through artificial insemination.
The single mother’s turbulent life caused a stir again and again in the years that followed. She was financially ruined, her house was foreclosed, she worked as a porn actress and was admitted to a rehab clinic for her addiction to pills. In 2014, she was sentenced to probation for welfare fraud.
In recent years, things have been quieter for Nadya Suleman, but she now seems to have her life under control. On Instagram, the 49-year-old keeps her more than 250,000 followers up to date on her everyday life – and also gives regular updates on her octuplets. The six boys and two girls are now 15 years old and real teenagers.
Now the extended family was able to welcome another new addition. With a photo of a baby’s feet under a pink blanket, Nadya Suleman announced on her account that she had become a grandmother for the first time. The father is one of her older sons. In the post, she thanked him and her “lovely daughter-in-law” for this “wonderful gift”.
The baby is a girl who was born on August 30, revealed the mother of 14. “We are so blessed to have a new member in our family,” said Nadya Suleman happily, writing to her granddaughter: “You are so loved and we can’t wait to see you grow up.”
