Delta State Police have arrested Ifeanyi Ogbonna, a social media content creator known as Odogwu of Asaba,
following allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman who subsequently died by suicide. The suspect is currently in custody as authorities investigate the June 1, 2026, incident and the victim’s final video recording.
Police Investigation and Suspect Custody
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Ifeanyi Ogbonna, a 40-year-old boutique owner and content creator, following a formal petition regarding the death of a 20-year-old woman. The victim traveled from Warri to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after Ogbonna invited her under the premise of providing mentorship in content creation through a program advertised on his social media channels.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe stated that the suspect allegedly lodged the woman in a hotel, where he raped and physically assaulted her. In a video, the victim identifies herself as Favour from Warri. She explains that she initially reached out to the suspect seeking financial help for personal challenges, specifically noting that she had turned down another man who demanded sex in exchange for assistance.
Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi has directed the Area Command in Effurun to lead a comprehensive investigation, with Edafe confirming that the suspect has provided useful statements
to investigators.
The Victim’s Final Account
Before ingesting a toxic substance, the victim recorded a video detailing her encounter with the suspect.
The victim, who was a nursing student in Warri, revealed in her recording that she had not told her parents about the trip, sharing her destination only with her twin sister.
Family Ordeal and Medical Efforts
The victim’s father, Mr. Ese, described a harrowing nine-day effort to keep his daughter alive after she consumed poison at their home in the Agbarho kingdom.

The father also alleged that his daughter faced continued harassment after the initial assault. I heard it was because of the threats from the man to kill her, that the man was threatening her not to disclose what happened,
Mr. Ese said, noting that his daughter had sought assistance from a human rights activist before her death.
Public Reaction and Human Rights Advocacy
Kelvin Ejumudo, a Senior Special Assistant on Human Rights to the Delta State Governor, issued a statement demanding that the suspect face the full weight of the law. A boy child that’s badly raised can become an endangered specie to a girl child.
We have monsters living amongst us as humans,
Ejumudo said.
In a separate development, an older video of the victim resurfaced on social media, showing her discussing her personal values. In that interview, conducted by another content creator, she expressed a desire to remain a virgin until marriage. The clip gained traction as public discourse shifted toward the contrast between the victim’s stated aspirations and the circumstances surrounding her death.
Unresolved Questions in the Investigation
While the Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and the ongoing nature of the investigation, several aspects of the case remain under scrutiny. Authorities have yet to release a detailed timeline of the specific threats the victim alleged she received following the incident, nor have they publicly detailed the contents of the phone records retrieved by the family. As the legal proceedings move forward, the primary focus remains on establishing the full circumstances of the encounter in the Asaba hotel and verifying the extent of the alleged coercion reported by the victim in her final message.
