The theater performance “Odysseus returned home” by Iakovos Campanellis is presented by the “Yfadi” Art Group on Monday, May 13, at 9 pm, at the Kamperio Theater, as part of the “Festival of Amateur Groups” action of the DI. PE. THE. Ioannina.
The play, written in 1952 by Iakovos Campanellis, refers allegorically to the person of Odysseus, to create a harsh satire with intense allegories about the consequences of the Second World War. Odysseus, shipwrecked in his homeland of Ithaca, now has nothing but the grand legend around his person. Full of lost hopes and dreams he is forced to become a merchant of his legend, to enjoy the favor and acceptance of his countrymen. The organized regime, however, seems to know and lead the myth better than its protagonist. When the glittering cocoon is broken, the myth dissolves, heroes are demystified, ideals are shattered and innocence is lost under the veil of self-interest.
The play is adapted and directed by Nikolaos Tzovaras, who also took over the scenery, while together with Nancy Vatsou, who is in charge of the production, they edited the costumes. The special constructions were undertaken by Dimitris Thomas, the lighting design by Giorgos Tzovaras, the make-up by Boula Kontogianni, the electrician by Vassilis Balaskas, the production direction by Lemonia Thomas and the videography by Sofia Goi.
Starring (in alphabetical order) Krystallia Giotakis, Ioanna Thomas, Anastasis Thomas, Myrto Kitsiu, Michaela Koutsomirou, Dimitris Kyriazis, Angelos Parganas, Eleonora Strati, Aris Tassiolas, Francis Tassiolas and Apostolos Tzimotolis.
