OECD Commission receives advances from Minedu in the framework of the process of accession to an international organization

The Special Commission for Monitoring the Incorporation of Peru into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (CESIP – OECD) received, this morning, the Minister of Education, Óscar Becerra, who presented the progress of his sector in the accession process to this international organization according to the Roadmap and the participation of Minedu in the committees organized by the OECD.

In this regard, Becerra indicated that they have complied with the review of the four legal instruments that corresponded to their sector: future educational policies in a changing social and economic context; guidelines on seismic safety in schools; quality guidelines for the provision of cross-border higher education and building equitable societies through education.

Likewise, the head of Education explained that they have participated in the OECD Educational Policies Committee and its subsidiaries such as the OECD Education Systems Indicators Program; Group of National Experts on Higher Education; Group of National Experts on educational resources, Early Childhood Education and Care Network; Group of National Experts in Vocational Education and Training, among others.

Minister Becerra pointed out that in 2023 the most important meeting will be again with the OECD Committee for Educational Policies between April 20 and 21.

Regarding the actions implemented, he highlighted the PISA 2018-2022 test, which is applied every three years, and the Study of Social and Emotional Skills necessary for children and teachers whose emotional balance was affected by the pandemic.

During the presentation, the minister announced that he will present a bill so that the balances that the State does not spend are allocated to education.

The secretary of the CESIP-OECD commission, Eduardo Salhuana (APP), who on this occasion chaired the session, highlighted the legal initiative for a percentage of the balances to be allocated to the sector and that they await its presentation to promote it.

On the other hand, Salhuana had an impact on increasing the level of teachers to improve educational quality and, in addition, asked what measures are being implemented to restart classes in the short term in areas affected by floods.

For her part, Congresswoman Isabel Cortez (Cambio Democrático – JP) consulted on Minedu’s policies to eliminate illiteracy. The parliamentarian, Wilson Soto (Popular Action) also emphasized improving the level of teachers who have received an increase in their remuneration.

Finally, Congressman Alejandro Muñante (RP) argued that the subject of risk and disaster prevention should be incorporated into basic or higher education. Likewise, he proposed the course on ethics in public management to improve the situation in which we find ourselves.
