The pandemic is noticeably exhausting.

Young people and adults who have lost their job or income or were threatened by such a loss are particularly affected, said the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris on Thursday. According to the study, the economic costs of psychological stress, not just because of the Corona crisis, are enormous. According to OECD estimates, they amount to over 4.2 percent of gross domestic product on average.

Even before the pandemic, people with mental illness had a 20 percent lower chance of employment and an average of 17 percent lower wages. Little has changed in the situation in the past five years, and mentally ill people have even had a harder time on the job market than before. At the same time, those affected often received insufficient help too late. The authors of the study therefore recommend placing the importance of mental health in the focus of public discussion and expanding the offers that are important for the prevention or treatment of mental problems.
