Last Wednesday, July 12, as every year we proudly celebrate in our country, “The Day of the Lawyer”, this day is dedicated to the noble profession of the legal profession: “ad vocatus”, which in Latin means: call, advocate, is In other words, the person who had the enormous wealth of knowledge and, as such, could defend another person in court or before the Senate, was distinguished in Rome.
On July 12, 1553, Bartolomé Frías Albornoz and Francisco Cervantes de Salazar, prestigious jurists, already at the European universities of Poland and Salamanca at that time, gave the first lecture on Law in the American Continent, particularly in the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico, therefore on this date, Lawyer’s Day is celebrated.
The Lawyer must be a servant of the law and a coadjuvant of justice, must be a deep connoisseur of the science of Law, since the lawyer: advises, advises, helps, helps, defends, fights, acts on behalf of another with responsibility , respect, honor, loyalty, discretion, respectability, prudence, frankness, love of Law and passion for justice; because he can only be a lawyer, that person who exercises his profession with dignity and rightly.
The lawyer should be proud of his profession, never arrogant or vain, as Eduardo J. Couture well pointed out: “Love your profession in such a way that the day your son asks you for advice about his destiny, you consider it an honor to propose that he become a lawyer.”
The lawyer’s life is permanently exposed to the temptations and weaknesses of daily life, obtaining a lawyer’s degree, is and should be, a high honor, away from corruption, bribery, since the legal profession has its great foundation in the rectitude of conscience, the human person is only fully realized when he manages to cultivate loyalties; then the lawyer is fulfilled whenever he fights for justice, the lawyer must know Law, but mainly, he must be a loyal man.
Without a doubt, and with deep respect for other professions, once again, I reiterate that the legal profession is the most beautiful and most beautiful profession of all professions, which must adhere to higher values such as morality and ethics: well, The jurist in his daily activity within society must strive to build the legal order, since the lawyer as guarantor of society must seek, at all times, justice, order and security.
Lawyers must be fully aware of the important task that we have to carry out, that of achieving the most noble aspiration: social justice, a fundamental aspiration for the development of the country.
It is up to lawyers to fight because the desires of the people are based on a rule of law, it is up to lawyers to demand that the law be applied without deviations, discrimination or delays, let us take from July 12 the norms of our daily commitment, Well, July 12 should not only be the day of good wishes, but should be the supreme norm of behavior, attitude and self-improvement for lawyers.
