In the shadow of Ukraine’s successes in the international arena and in the shadow of the knowledge that later in the day Ukraine will grant ‘candidate’ status to Ukraine and its neighbor Moldova – it can be seen that the battles over the East are getting harder and harder and causing many losses to both sides.

Tomorrow (Friday) marks four months since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the war seems far from over.

In the key cities of Sverdansk and Lishichansk there are fierce and difficult battles between Ukraine and Russia, as these are important cities for the Russian progress in the occupation of eastern Ukraine.

Oleksiy Artovich, senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zlansky, says the fighting in the eastern Ukraine has reached a “frightening high”.

The chemical plant in Sverdansk also remained besieged, with about 500 civilians and many soldiers who had hidden from the Russian fire and now could not leave without a horizon for a humanitarian corridor soon.

Meanwhile, Turkey said it would examine Ukraine’s claim that Russia had sold stolen Ukrainian grain to the Turks. In response, Russia continued to deny the Ukrainian claim.

In Turkey, it was said that they would open an investigation into the matter, adding that “not a single grain of grain stolen from Ukraine would enter Turkey.”

Later in the day, the European Union is expected to approve the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the status of candidate countries for EU membership, following an emergency application.

Georgia, which has made a similar request, has decided to postpone the hearing until some of the reports published against it by the European Union have been amended, mainly in the context of the country’s press freedom.
