The Circle of Irish Studies of the University of Granada celebrates from January 25 to 27 the sixth edition of the International Conference on Irish Studies. These conferences, open in nature and free registration, are organized by the new Circle of Irish Studies formalized on May 20 through an agreement signed between Pilar Aranda Ramírez, rector of the University of Granada, and Frank Smyth, ambassador of Ireland in Spain. These conferences, of an international nature, aim to bring Irish culture closer through the study of literature, music, cinema and history, hand in hand with its most immediate protagonists: renowned writers of the current literary scene, documentary filmmakers, musicians and actors .

In this sixth edition, there will be presentations by specialists in the field of Irish studies from various areas such as literature, sociology, linguistics, musicology, history or cinema. The conference will feature the participation of several plenary speakers: the researcher of contemporary prose and poetry in the Irish language Rióna Ní Fhrigil, from the National University of Ireland, Galway, the presenter, documentary filmmaker, environmental activist and academic Eoin Warner, also from the University National of Ireland, Galway, as well as traditional Irish musician and academic Desmond Wilkinson, known primarily as a singer and flute and whistle player. Also acclaimed poet and writer Theo Dorgan will offer readings, followed by a discussion. The conference will feature the Irish singer-songwriter and leader of the Irish rock band The Frames, Glen Hansard who, in addition to being a Grammy-nominated musician, is also a famous actor.

Along with these plenary activities, there will be an initiation workshop on the Irish language, an exhibition of illustrations about Ireland and the new Céilí band from the University of Granada, made up of musicians from the new Circle of Irish Studies, will be officially presented. To stimulate student interest in Irish studies and disseminate research from emerging students and scholars, a postgraduate student roundtable will be held. The activities will take place at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters and at the CajaGranada Theater.
