Dragon Ball GT was released in 1997 as a continuation -five years later- of the events in Dragon Ball Z and served as a farewell to the franchise in those years. Although it was a time filled with a lot of nostalgia, in the following years it began to be woven among fans that the series is not canon due to the low participation of Akira Toriyamacreator of the manga, who had limited himself to giving some ideas, and drawing transformations like the SSJ4.

The same does not happen with ‘Super‘, where we do have Toriyama completely involved, while GT was developed entirely by Toei. Although the doubt still remains, an official timeline made by Shueisha, who publishes the Dragon Ball manga, would clear everything up.

In the last few hours, an image from a Japanese event that took place in 2017 called ‘Dragon Ball Tenkaichi Budosai‘, where they exhibited the history of the franchise. Curiously, the timeline includes the first series from 1986, passing through Z, DB Super and Dragon Ball GT.

That Shueisha placed it at the time seems to be an indication that the company still takes the series into account as part of the franchise’s canon. DBGT takes place in the year 789, which would be five years after the events of Dragon Ball Super. Although it is an official image, the fact that it has disappeared from the official Shueisha channels could imply that this idea has already been discarded.

In video games like ‘Xenoverse‘ Bandai Namco hints that GT is a alternate universe. The same thing happens in ‘Heroes’, although here they do take greater freedom because it is a promotional anime for the card game.
