Abdullah Al-Harees said in a speech during the opening ceremony of the Saudi embassy in Damascus: “I officially announce the reopening of the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Syrian Arab Republic in support of and strengthening the mutual relations between the two countries.”
He added: “On this occasion, I affirm the keenness of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to move forward and make all efforts to develop bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries,” saying: “We consider this day an important moment in the history of relations between the two brotherly countries.”
The opening ceremony of the embassy was attended by the distinguished actress Mona Wassef, and the actors Abbas Al-Nouri and Rashid Assaf, in addition to a number of Syrian actors, including Nour Ali and Ayman Abdel Salam.
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Syria and closed its embassy in 2012, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said last May.
