Tundra Esports looks like the best team in the race at times. But in the best-of-five, OG can better keep his nerve. Team Nigma and Team Liquid, on the other hand, are not at the Dota World Cup.
Bucharest (dpa) – Double World Champion OG will also be at the upcoming Dota 2 World Championship. At the Western European qualifying tournament, midlaner Syed “Sumail” Hassan’s team beat Tundra Esports 3-2 in the final.
“I think each of us is very happy,” said Sumail in an interview after the game. “Something about these qualifying rounds actually makes them somehow more exciting than the World Cup itself.”
OG had to work hard to beat Tundra in five games. Both teams left the established paths in the final in the hero election and especially Tundra’s German midlaner Leon “Nine” Kirilin played a very unusual strategy with Mid-Winter Wyvern. Tundra did not lose a single game until the final and even relegated OG to the lower half of the tournament in the semi-finals of the Upper Bracket.
The remaining teams, which were calculated to have good chances, were able to meet expectations overall. While only Vikin.gg flew out of the tournament surprisingly early, Team Liquid and Team Nigma made it deep into the lower half of the tournament. The elimination of Nigma’s captain Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi by OG in the semifinals makes Secrets captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov the only player in the world who has attended every Dota World Cup.
In the Chinese qualification, Elephant prevailed 3: 1 against EHOME. Elephant is made up of former PSG.LGD and Vici Gaming players and hit the headlines repeatedly at the beginning of the season due to transfer problems. With the Chinese and Western European qualifiers, all 18 teams have now been determined for the Dota World Cup in October.
