Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said on the 14th, “The last line of defense to protect citizens’ lives is shaking,” and “To help medical staff endure the crisis, the city of Seoul will provide an emergency budget of 7.1 billion won for emergency rooms and background care, and will additionally allocate a budget to support hospitals and pharmacies that are open during Chuseok.”

Mayor Oh visited the emergency medical center of a university hospital in Seoul on this day to inspect the situation on site and announced this on his Facebook page.

Mayor Oh said, “On the first day of the holiday, emergency medical sites are moving in an orderly manner. Unlike in the past, patients with mild symptoms are being distributed to other institutions rather than emergency rooms at higher-level hospitals.”

He added, “It is understandable to want to go to a large hospital when you are sick, but the citizens of Seoul who helped categorize medical institutions and emergency facilities are ‘true heroes.’”

Mayor Oh said, “I am grateful that the number of hospitals and pharmacies joining us in opening their doors (during the holiday) is increasing,” and “(Hospitals and pharmacies) information can be found through the emergency medical portal E-Gen, Dasan Call Center, and Naver Map and Kakao Map’s ‘Holiday Clinic’.”

Mayor Oh expressed his regret by sharing the difficulties he heard during his visit to the hospital. Mayor Oh said, “In the emergency room, it is said that nearly 40% of the doctors have already retired or expressed their intention to retire compared to usual times. In the first half of the year, no emergency room doctor was able to take a vacation, and some doctors even fainted while treating patients with fractures.”

The number of hospitals and pharmacies that will be open during the Seoul City holiday period is estimated to be around 18,000.
