Prosecutor Cubillos said he made the decision after learning from the press that the civil police had acknowledged that they already had information about the cinematic assault that took place on August 16.

Aquiles Cubillos, regional prosecutor of O’Higgins, reported that he will open a case for Failure to report and obstruction of the investigation against the Investigative Police (PDI)after the robbery of a Brinks branch in Rancagua.

Cubillos indicated that he made the decision after I learned from the press that the civil police recognized that they already had records of the cinematic assault which was recorded on August 16.

In an interview with CNN Chile, the O’Higgins prosecutor said that “we have learned, as have you, of this fact, through the statement issued by the PDI.”

Along these lines, Aquiles Cubillos expressed that They did not receive prior information from the PDI that “they had a history of committing this crime. We are certainly surprised by the information.”

The prosecutor pointed out that they only had access to this data at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, for which reason he ordered a series of proceedings to verify the data provided by the PDI.

The O’Higgins regional prosecutor stressed that “it would have been very important to have had them from the very beginning. We are definitely carrying out the necessary procedures to verify this information.”

Faced with this situation, Cubillos said that “I have decided to open a case for failure to report and obstruction of the investigation. The records existed before August 16, so they should have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the time. This could constitute a failure to report, and we now need to investigate why we were not provided with this information in time.”

Asked about the possible involvement of a PDI or Carabineros officer in the robbery at Brinks, the O’Higgins prosecutor stated that “any option will be considered and will be the subject of the investigation for failure to report and obstruction of the investigation.”
