Major League Baseball (MLB) superstar Shohei Otani (30, LA Dodgers) announced the news of his wife Mamiko Tanaka’s pregnancy.
On the 29th, Ohtani posted a photo on his social media with a short message saying, “I look forward to little Rookie joining our family soon.”
The released photos included a dog decoy, an ultrasound photo, pink baby underwear, and light blue baby shoes.
Previously, Ohtani attracted public attention by making a surprise marriage announcement ahead of the LA Dodgers’ spring camp training held at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona, USA on February 29 (local time).
He said of his wife Tanaka, “She is an ordinary person. I came across it by chance in Japan about 3 or 4 years ago and had the opportunity to see it a few times during a short period of time. “We started dating much later,” he explained. “We got engaged last year, but my wife came to the U.S. only recently.”
Otani’s wife, Tanaka, was born in 1996 and played as a professional basketball player in Japan after participating in the basketball team of Japan’s prestigious Waseda University.
According to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) website, Tanaka played for Japan at the 2011 U16 Asian Women’s Basketball Championship, the 2012 U17 Women’s World Basketball Championship, and the 2014 U18 Asian Women’s Basketball Championship.
Tanaka’s past tastes and values were also reported through a photo card published by a Japanese magazine in 2020. When asked, ‘What type of man do you like?’, Tanaka answered ‘masculine macho style.’ She said that her future hope is to ‘become a mother.’
