OIC Foreign Ministers welcome HM the King’s initiatives to strengthen intra-African cooperation and integration
Yaoundé – The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), whose 50th session was held in Yaoundé, welcomed the Atlantic initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, as an African partnership process aimed at strengthening cooperation and integration ties between African countries of the Atlantic coast.
The Council stressed, at the end of its work on Friday, that this royal initiative is in line with the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline project and likely to contribute to strengthening the infrastructure of the Member States, to accelerate economic integration and complementarity and to intensify intra-community trade. The OIC Foreign Ministers highly welcomed the initiative of HM King Mohammed VI, aimed at promoting the access of the Sahel States to the Atlantic Ocean, affirming that the royal initiative intends to contribute to strengthening human development and combating insecurity and precariousness. The ministers, in this sense, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative which is part of the Kingdom’s effective solidarity action with brotherly African countries in general and the Sahel region in particular. Morocco was represented at this two-day session, held under the theme “Development of intra-OIC transport and communication infrastructure: Major instrument in the fight against poverty and insecurity”, by a strong delegation led by the Moroccan ambassador to Saudi Arabia and permanent representative to the OIC, Mustapha Mansouri.
