From week to week, drivers’ budgets are looking for some relief. According to the figures revealed this Monday by the Ministry of the Revolution and according to the week of September 9 to 15, fuel prices per liter continue their decline that began at the beginning of summer. On average, diesel sells at 1.59 euros per liter. SP 95-E10 is priced at 1.68 euros per liter. That’s a drop of two cents for both oils compared to the previous week.
In detail, also according to data from the company, twelve stations offer diesel for less than 1.50 euros in France. Seven of them are Leclerc stations. Also, 135 stations are offering diesel below 1.52 euros this Monday, while there were only 6 last Monday. Total Station in Bollène (Vaucluse), the smallest in France last week, showed diesel at 1.38 euros per liter, while Leclerc in Salon-de-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), Cognac (Charente), Dieppe (Seine-) Maritime) or even Poitiers (Vienne) sold at 1.49 euros.
Back to December 2021
The time when fuel was close to 2 euros per liter seems far away today. Compared to the month of August, the reduction in prices is very significant. In the space of a month, prices fell by 20 cents. At the beginning of 2024, the price per liter of diesel is 1.75 euros, compared to 1.79 euros for SP95-E10. This level has not been reached since December 2021, two months before the outbreak of war in Ukraine, which led to an increase in energy prices. At the time, motorists paid 1.53 euros per liter of diesel and 1.60 euros for SP95-E10.
The price of a barrel of oil (Brent) was trading at 72 dollars (64.75 euros) while it was still above 80 dollars (72 euros) at the end of August. This reduction in energy costs, which weigh heavily on household finances, follows a reduction in inflation. According to INSEE, it fell below 2% (1.8%) in August, the first in three years.
