Juba: Both countries want to dominate the oil-rich Abe, which borders the North African countries of Sudan and South Sudan. Even after the independence of South Sudan from Sudan in 2011, this problem has not been resolved.

The African Union has recommended holding a referendum on Abeyi’s right. But there are differences of opinion on which country should vote.

Abyei is currently under the control of South Sudan.

Border clashes between the two countries have escalated since South Sudan sent troops to Abyei in March last year. Because of this, the UN security force is operating here. However, the ethnic conflict here is increasing day by day.

Meanwhile, some persons entered with weapons the night before yesterday and opened fire on the villagers. In this, 52 people, including a UN Security Force soldier, were killed; 64 people were seriously injured. The UN has strongly condemned the incident.

It is not clear why the attack was carried out. However, there is a suspicion that this attack may have been carried out for the land issue here.
