The ferry “Marco Polo”, which was stranded off the Swedish Baltic Sea coast, has been successfully brought to the port of the city of Karlshamn. Everything went undramatically and according to plan, a coast guard spokesman said on Thursday. The day before, the ship had been freed from the seabed and taken to deeper waters.

As reported, the ferry “Marco Polo” hit the bottom on October 22nd on the way between Trelleborg and Karlshamn. She continued her journey with around 70 people on board, but ran aground again about five kilometers later (see video above). Since then, the ship has been stuck near Hörvik off the Swedish Baltic Sea coast. The passengers and some of the crew were able to leave the ship. 50,000 liters of oil spilled Although the emergency services were able to collect around 50,000 liters of oil and oil waste, the spilled oil still caused environmental damage. About a week and a half after the accident, the ferry could now be maneuvered into the port of the city of Karlshamn. She had already been freed from the seabed on Wednesday and taken a good nautical mile out into deeper waters. Two members of the crew have already been sentenced to fines for negligence in shipping traffic.
