/ Najaf Governor Majid Al-Waili announced on Tuesday the discovery of an oil well in the Al-Rahban Oasis area in the Najaf Sea Depression.
He said in a statement received by Agency that the discovery came through the exploratory patch in which the survey was conducted by the Oil Exploration Company and a group of foreign experts, considering that this makes Najaf one of the governorates with high oil reserves.
The statement quoted Al-Waili, during the deliberations he held with his advisor for administrative units and energy affairs, as saying that there were indications that appeared in that area, including volatile vapors and gases, a rise in soil temperature, and the burning of orchards and green areas, indicating the presence of an oil well in that area.
Al-Waili ordered the formation of a committee headed by Abdul-Hussein Al-Shabli, Advisor for Administrative Units and Energy Affairs, to follow up and maintain continuous communication with the Ministry of Oil and the Oil Exploration Company for the purpose of providing logistical support to the oil exploration team and the relevant ministerial teams and to expedite the completion of the required procedures related to the oil field.
Al-Waili explained that there will be direct communication with the Ministry of Oil to expedite the preparation processes to reach oil production, stressing that this discovery will be a comprehensive developmental and economic revolution and will raise the standard of living and economy of the Najaf citizen.
