The discovery took place this Saturday afternoon, around 2:30 p.m., in a field between Beaulieu-les-Fontaines and Ognolles in the northeast of the department. The body of Jean-Paul Dumont was found by a farmer not far from the place called La Pannetière.
The latter had decided to harvest his field before the rain arrived when he saw, at the end of his plot, a dark mass in a furrow of wheat. It was a man’s body. The gendarmes were immediately called and quickly made the connection with an investigation they had opened for the disturbing disappearance at the beginning of the month, that of Jean-Paul Dumont.
The 67-year-old man had left his retirement home in Beaulieu-les-Fontaine on Friday evening July 7, without telling anyone. It was not until the next morning that the staff realized that he was missing. Four days of searches followed, of hunts carried out by the inhabitants and the family of the resident until late at night. Dogs specializing in the search for people had been called in as reinforcements, helicopters had crisscrossed the area. No result. Many hoped that the sexagenarian was lost, was taken by a car, but as the days progressed, hope was reduced to a trickle.

“The place where he was found had been flown over. The searches carried out by the thermal camera had revealed nothing, which leads us to believe that Jean-Paul Dumont was already dead at that time. His body temperature must have taken the same temperature as the ground. Moreover, the vegetation was high at that time. », Explains a source close to the investigation.
Jean-Paul Dumont’s body was located 3 km from the nursing home where he had been living for two years. The man was in his right mind, had no Alzheimer’s type cognitive disease but suffered from psychological problems. His treatment had also been the subject of an adjustment shortly before he disappeared.
If the identity of the body is in no doubt for the investigators, an examination will nevertheless be carried out to confirm it and try to determine the origin of his death.
