Pennakaram:

Kabini dam and Krishnarajasagar dams in Karnataka are full as southwest monsoon has intensified.

Due to this, more than 1 lakh cubic feet of water was released in the Cauvery river for the safety of these two dams.

More than 1 lakh cubic feet of water reached Okanagan via Pilikundulu on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border. All waterfalls were submerged due to flood.

At present, the intensity of monsoon has decreased slightly in the Cauvery catchment area of the two states. Due to this, the release of excess water to Karnataka dams has been reduced.

In this situation, as of 8 am today, 34,875 cubic feet from Kabini dam in Karnataka and 46,518 cubic feet from Krishnaraja Sagar dam, a total of 81 thousand 393 cubic feet of water was released into the river.

As a result, Cauvery river has been flooded for the 4th day in Okanagan.

Subsequently, the water flow in Okanagan has reduced to 80,000 cubic feet per second.

As the water flow has reduced, Ivarpani and Sini Aruvi, which were submerged during the flood, are now visible. The flood reached both banks of the river Cauvery.

Due to increased water flow in the river, the ban imposed by the district administration on taking bath in the Okanagan falls, going on parish trips in the Cauvery river, and for tourists and public to go down in the Cauvery river has been extended for the 5th day.

The Okanagan police and revenue department are continuously patrolling the Cauvery riverside area including the footpath leading to the main waterfall, Mamarathukkadu Parisal Department, Crocodile Farm, Alambadi as a precautionary measure.

Tourists who came to Okanagan were stopped by the police at Bennagaram Math check post and Alambadi check post and sent back.

Officials of the Central Water Resources Department are continuously monitoring the flow of water in Pilikundulu.
