What is the newcomer going to do with us? Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (63, SPD) took his oath of office on Wednesday. The morning after, BILD met the head of government on Sunday for his first interview in the Chancellor’s office (140 square meters). He only brought his old leather bag and reading glasses with him.

He got the furniture (desk, white seating area, conference table) from his predecessor Angela Merkel (67, CDU). On the windowsill: bouquets of flowers (red roses, lilies, amaryllis) – all gifts on taking office. The walls: bare and white. The Chancellor has not yet selected any pictures, the calendar is too full for that: Prime Minister’s Conference, trips to Paris and Brussels, Bundestag …

But what does he intend to do with Germany? Where are its red lines? And why did he actually want to become chancellor at the age of 12? Read his answers with BILDplus.
