Berlin – The tension rises in the Berlin tram. One of the largest tram companies in the world is getting more power this year. The aim is for more trains to be able to run in the future, as planned, according to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG). “BVG is increasing the system voltage from 600 to 750 volts in order to enable further clock compression and performance increases in the coming years,” said company spokesman Markus Falkner. But the change has a dark side. Vintage trams, which fans use to commemorate the historical legacy, also have to be adapted – in their case, that would be very time-consuming. The Monument Preservation Association for Local Transport (DVN) expects that the travel program will have to be restricted.
