Olivia Rodrigo Releases First Original Holiday Song ‘Take Me Home (4 Christmas)

Olivia Rodrigo has released her first original holiday song, take me home (4 christmas), a track co-written with Dan Nigro and Amy Allen. The single, which arrived via Interscope Records on November 5, is accompanied by a music video featuring Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live’s Ben Marshall.

Collaborative details for the holiday release

The new track was produced by longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who also worked on Rodrigo’s recent projects. According to InMusic Blog, the song is part of a major Friday music release that includes several other high-profile artists, including Dove Cameron’s debut album, Final Girl, and a new chapter in Jack Harlow’s Sweet Action series. Other noteworthy releases this Friday include music from Slayyyter, Ava Max, Chlöe, Coi Leray, and Rex Orange County.

Rodrigo announced the song on Instagram, sharing a teaser that showed the production crew playing a game of Celebrity, where participants wore headbands with “Olivia Rodrigo” written on them.

The lyrics of take me home (4 christmas) describe the excitement and nerves associated with meeting a partner’s extended family. In the song, Rodrigo sings about wanting a boyfriend to take her home to his parents’ house to demonstrate serious commitment rather than just for making out. She noted that the relationship between Nixon’s character, Miranda Hobbs, and Steve Brady inspired her recent album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.

Physical formats and retail availability

Fans can access the single through various physical formats. The Music Universe reports that the release includes a 7-inch vinyl and a cassette. The physical releases will also include a B-side titled miss this christmas. Additionally, a Target exclusive 7-inch vinyl became available in stores on November 6.

A busy year for the pop singer

The holiday release follows a prolific period for the 23-year-old artist. Earlier this year, she released her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 first-week units. While she has performed holiday music before, such as a 2020 cover of Joni Mitchell’s River for a High School Musical: The Musical: The Series special, this marks her first original Christmas single.

Inspired by Lilith Fair, the all-female lineup featured artists including Chappell Roan, Doechii, Bikini Kill, Mitski, and others. The festival raised $20 million for non-profit organizations, including Planned Parenthood and the Center for Reproductive Rights. During this festival, Rodrigo also debuted a new song, Serena Joy, which was inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale.

The remix featured David Byrne as a retro game show host in its music video and became the highest-peaking all-female collaboration on the Hot 100 this year. Following this release, her third album returned to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

The tour, which supports her latest album, is scheduled to continue through the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, including scheduled performances in Los Angeles and New York City. Her tour opening lineup features Grace Ives, Wolf Alice, Devon Again, The Last Dinner Party, and Die Spitz.
