Wednesday, November 8, Olivier Dussopt appears for the first time in the Senate chamber since the examination of the “immigration” bill began there, two days earlier. But if the Minister of Labor sits on the benches of the Palais du Luxembourg, while the flagship article of the text is about to be debated, then supposed to facilitate the regularization of undocumented workers in professions in shortage, it is for the very routine weekly question session with the government. As soon as the exercise was finished, he withdrew and left it to Gérald Darmanin to defend the government’s project.

The former socialist thus does not witness the deletion by the senators of article 3 on regularization, erected as a “red line” by The Republicans (LR). The senatorial majority introduced a new one which leaves prefects their discretionary power, rather than creating a legal residence permit in sectors with a labor shortage. A notable absence, while Olivier Dussopt was at the origin of the text – the solemn vote of which must take place on Tuesday November 14 in the Senate – with his interior counterpart. As a symbol of the disappearance of the so-called left leg of the project.

One year later, “it is clear that this balance has completely fallen”.
