The members of the 1st ELME Dodecanese who attended the OLME conference are returning from Athens with their bags full, having achieved the satisfaction of their requests.
In particular, at the OLME conference, the proposal of the 1st ELME Dodecanese, which included requests for the teachers of insular and mountainous Greece, was voted unanimously as the basic position of OLME for the next two years!
The proposal was submitted signed by all the representatives of the Dodecanese as well as representatives from all the island regions of the country, as well as from mountainous Greece.
As the president of the 1st ELME Dodecanese Antonis Koufou points out, the good cooperation brought this unprecedented result.
“The 1st ELME Dodecanese, with positions bearing the signatures of all the representatives from the Dodecanese and many representatives from island and mountainous regions throughout Greece, achieved the unanimous voting of the positions regarding the improvement of living conditions and their adoption as an official position of OLME for the next two years.
This decision binds the Federation to move in the direction of implementing the above requests as a first line issue now.
We are proud to have achieved, with consensus and cooperation, a result that aims to lead to better living conditions for teachers in unacritic and insular Greece.
It goes without saying that as A `ELME of Dodecanese we will exert constant pressure on the new Board of the Federation so that from the very first meeting with the political leadership of the Ministry of Education, the problems of our colleagues will be put on the table”, said the president of A Come to Dodecanese.

THE PROPOSAL OF A’ ELME DODEKANISOS
At the 21st conference of the Federation of Teachers held in Athens from July 1-3, the Union of Secondary Education Officers of Dodecanese achieved the unanimous approval by the body of representatives of the text of the positions submitted regarding the issues of living of teachers in border areas.
These are issues that are of great concern to the educational community of the Dodecanese and particularly of the island of Greece as they directly affect the quality of the daily life of the teachers who live and work in our region and especially those who come from other regions of the country who are asked to bear the cost of rent . However, apart from the cost of rents, an extremely serious problem faced by the teachers who serve in our area is finding housing, which turns out to be a major social issue, since – as “d” has highlighted many times – the houses available for rent are not sufficient to meet increased needs.
The teachers, among other things, are asking for the doubling of the border allowance, a special living allowance, the reinstatement of the housing purchase subsidy and social housing for teachers. In addition, they request the reinstatement of the reduced VAT rates as applied before 2025.
In detail, the positions included in the proposal of the 1st ELME Dodecanese and voted unanimously by the OLME include:
– Doubling the border allowance.
-Special living allowance – incentive depending on the difficulty of living/cost on each island
-Restoration of Subsidy for the purchase of a residence with a 10-year stay at the border
– Social housing for teachers
-Reinstatement of the repealed special VAT regime in the border areas, as it was in force before 2015.
-Transport Equivalent for all teachers.
-Timely payment of the Transport Equivalent
-Discounts on ferry and plane tickets for permanent and substitute professors.
-Rent subsidy
-Restoration of the accommodation allowance from the island municipalities
