Olmert on the loss to Netanyahu: “His good name is not worth much”

by time news

The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court accepted the defamation lawsuit of Benjamin Netanyahu and his family against Ehud Olmert last Monday. The ruling dealt with the defamation lawsuit filed by Prime Minister-designate Binyamin Netanyahu and his family members against the former Prime Minister. The family members demanded an amount of NIS 837,000 from Olmert for calling them “mentally ill”, but the judge ultimately ruled significantly lower compensation in the amount of only NIS 62,500. In an interview with the program “Meet the Press” that took place this evening (Saturday night), the former prime minister referred for the first time to the loss in the trial against the Netanyahu family.

“I have no intention of challenging the legal decision, I respect the judge’s decision. On the legal decision side, there is a very blunt statement by the court about the Netanyahu family. To say that the Prime Minister’s good name is worth NIS 20,000 is to say that his good name is not worth much. This is a harsh statement – in essence, the court is saying that the prime minister’s good name is worth very little,” Olmert scolded in an interview.

Olmert on Ben Gvir: Whoever will be responsible for security is the one who is constantly busy lighting fires

During the interview, the former prime minister expressed his concern about the chairman of Otzma Yehudit, Itamar Ben Gabir, if he serves as the next minister of internal security. “I am very worried and disturbed and not about the trial. When a person is hurt – he should not run the country. It has been proven that both his wife and son are involved in all of Netanyahu’s decision-making processes. In the place where the Prime Minister of Israel takes a torch and sets the country on fire when he appoints Ben Gabir to be the Minister of National Security of the State of Israel – the one who will be in charge of the MGB, the Sheik Jarrah, the Negev. We saw how he set the country on fire in ‘Shomer the walls’ and made the provocations in the Jarrah conversation,” said Olmert.

He also added that “we are on the brink of a third intifada. The person who should be responsible for maintaining our personal security is the one who is constantly busy lighting fires everywhere – in Hebron, the Negev, Jerusalem and anywhere else. And all this is done by a prime minister who is willing to sell the most basic anchors of our democratic life in order to save himself.”
